We're Boise's Adult Nap Place. The best Nervous System Reset in Town.

Someone called Zen Riot "the adult nap place" and honestly, we're into it.
Because here's the thing: naps get treated like a guilty pleasure, something for toddlers and jet lag. But the research on the benefits of napping is solid. And it turns out restorative yoga and yoga nidra can offer a lot of those same benefits, even when you're wide awake on the mat.
What a Good Nap Actually Does
A short nap (10 to 20 minutes) can lower cortisol, slow your heart rate, and shift your nervous system out of fight-or-flight mode and into rest-and-digest. That's why you wake up from a good nap feeling like someone hit a reset button. You're not tired anymore, but you're not wired either. Your body found a middle setting.
Longer naps can also improve memory consolidation (uh-hmmm us ladies of a certain age forgetting why we went into a room) and reaction time, which is part of why naps are common practice in high-performance fields like aviation and elite sports.
Why Restorative Yoga Hits the Same Markers
You don't have to be asleep to get some of the same effects. Certain kinds of yoga, especially slow, restorative practices, breathwork and guided meditation activate the parasympathetic nervous system in a very similar way to napping. This is the same system at the center of nervous system regulation, a phrase you probably hear repeatedly at our studio.
Savasana, long holds
, and breath-focused practice all send the same signal to your body: you're safe, you can stand down. Heart rate drops. Cortisol drops. Muscle tension releases. Yoga nidra, sometimes called yogic sleep, goes a step further. Studies on yoga nidra specifically show brainwave patterns that overlap with early-stage sleep, all without you actually falling asleep.
The difference is control. A nap depends on your schedule, your environment, your ability to actually fall asleep on command (rare). A restorative yoga class gives your body that same "stand down" signal on a schedule that works for your day, guided by someone else, in a room built for exactly that purpose.
Zen Riot offers you a place to rest right here in Boise
If you've ever left a restorative yoga class feeling like you just woke up from something, that's not a coincidence. Your nervous system doesn't to know the difference between a nap and 20 minutes of well-guided stillness. It just knows it finally got the signal to rest.
Come nap with your eyes open. We'll have the blankets ready.
